Turn on the tv and u can see all the news channels playing the most disgraceful video of taslima nasreen being attacked by a bunch of hooligans.
Where is India heading to? We have seen 60 years of independence but is this all we can pride ourselves on. India is supposed to be a secular country wer all ppl enjoy freedom of speech, as long as it doesn’t hurt religious sentiments. Lets go on a nostalgic trip. Right after independence india was being torn into two in the name of partition. Now india is secular supporting all relegions. But can’t we see that religious tolerance is only among a class of ppl.
When a student of baroda sketched nude goddesses his act was condemned by the allegedly extremist hindu outfits of kar sevaks and shiv senaiites. It is only natural of any hindu to condemn the act and no fault can be found in this. But the fact that the college principal sided with the student is very much unwarranted. In turn the blame was put on the protesters saying that they were not tolerant enough(please note this).
And there is our M.F.Hussain who is so (in)famous for his representation of hindu deities in his nude canvases. His art is to be appreciated but not at the cost of other religion’s subjects hurting theor sentiments. But again the bottom line is that hindus are not tolerant enough(please note this too).
Lets take now the case of the dutch cartoonist who made a mockery of the prophet. very condemnable indeed. And it was followed by wat muslim nations are best at--- religious FATWAS. So be it. But their act is always warranted and wy aren’t they considered intolerant??
Also taslima and salman rushdie’s case they were threatened to death if their views were not regretted. And they fled. All muslim nations issue FATWAS at their will. As if it is a passport. They aren’t so tolerant afterall.
And Christians. Take the case of the DA vinci code. The film was not allowed to be screened in india unless Sony pictures carried a disclaimer stating that this work is purely fictitious.all this from the ppl of a religion who are considered very tolerant.
But all said and done hindu mythology is tampered with and hindu deities portrayed in all ill health in movies. When hindus protest it is a mark of intolerance. Wy should we be taken for granted.
Wy this double talk?
I do not mean to kindle religious tension but it sure requires some thinking. And it is high time filmmakers stop showing hindus in wrong light and muslims as terrorists always.

Hi Kicha!
Its really high time u initiated a discussion on this topic by the post. This is a topic that may be argued abt for years.what u did pen down is absolutely irrefutable by any sane soul.Infact, Hinduism is seen as a play toy here. When there is a ban on any of the Unfair Muslim Oragnisations, politicians view that as an act that collapses the entire so called Secularism of the Indian subcontinent and the media publicises it as one nasty thing which eventually leads to national disaster..Instances are a plenty to quote..On the otherhand, when there is an incident which is an act of deglorification to Hinduism(Brahminism, in particular),every one remains tongue tied. Why does this happen?
Leave alone at the highest level, where there is a fool play by politicians to attract the Minority vote banks.. whats the problem in the lowest level...
A middle class Hindu, doesn't give a damn abt these issues.A typical middle class mind wants to make itself secured and self-sustained..For an average Brahmin family, when it boiles down as a problem that affects their family, their option is, obviously, to run away from the problem and be safe.. This doesnt mean to label them as coward, rather its their fate, for there is no support from the govt for them on such issues for the political reasons quoted above.
U, me and every one of us are grown that way..
What else can we do, as of now, than to lament(that too silently) in such blogs and web spaces???
IF U DO FIND A WAY....post it and i shall be previleged to join hands with u...

Saami...
dudes,
Still there are some organizations and Hindu groups (don't want to mention the names and all) who are fighting for the aforesaid issues and also a bit ahead for the Reservations in Public entities. Why I am relating this is, I am one of the badly affected person in that issue (which is similarly related to this) while i was been given a seat in a Self-Financing college which is a 1000 times worser than the seat got by a girl scoring a 3 marks LESSER than me as she is a SC. Take whatever it is the the M.F.Hussain or the reservations, we are made Backward as we are Forward class.
Let us hope the steps taken by those organizations succeed..
thats it...
Madhu
